Richland One to Offer COVID-19 Testing for Students and Staff

Beginning Tuesday, February 2, 2021, Richland One will offer on-site rapid COVID-19 tests for district students and employees who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath (a more complete list of symptoms is provided below). Please note that the testing is for Richland One students and staff only; parents/guardians and community members will not be able to get tested at the district testing sites. The non-invasive nasal tests will be administered by Prisma Health nurses at the district's seven high schools at no cost to students or staff. Richland One's COVID-19 testing sites will be open on Tuesdays only through the end of the school year from 9-11 a.m. and from 1-4 p.m. The tests will be conducted outside in the parking lots in a drive-through/walk-through format. All Richland One employees and all students (elementary, middle, and high) will be eligible to be tested at any of these sites. Appointments will not be required. Parents must contact their child's school nurse and sign a consent form in order for their child to be tested. The tests are designed for Richland One employees and students who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms including: • Fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher) or chills • Cough • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing • New loss of taste or smell • Sore throat • Congestion or runny nose • Nausea or vomiting • Diarrhea NOTE: The following can also be COVID-19 symptoms but they are so common to many other illnesses that we would only recommend a COVID test if the symptoms cannot be explained by other factors: • Fatigue (without recent unusual exertion or insomnia) • Muscular body aches (without recent exertion beyond the norm) • Headache (unexplainable- unrelated to blood pressure, new medication, menstrual cycle, or history of migraines, or explainable by another underlying medical condition Richland One parents who have questions about COVID-19 testing should contact the nurse at their child’s school.
