Semester 2 Information
Greetings Falcon Families!
As the 1st Semester (S1) comes to a close, we wanted to first say thank you. Thank you for your continued support, partnership, flexibility, and understanding as we have navigated this school year together. We know it has been a challenging time for you at home and we remain ready to assist you as we hit the halfway mark of the school year. We would also like to recognize, celebrate, and honor the hard work of our teachers. They have graciously and expertly adapted to these unusual and challenging circumstances, and we are proud of their effort, dedication, and commitment to teaching and learning.
We do have a few housekeeping items for you to take note of as we transition to 2nd Semester (S2). First, some students will start S2 classes tomorrow, Wednesday, January 27th. Others will continue in their year-long A/B classes. Still, others will have a combination of the two and have only one or two new classes. In order to ensure that you know exactly which classes your student is taking, please go to Parent Portal to review their schedule. For your convenience, a handy "How To Read Your Schedule" tutorial can be found at the conclusion of this message. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to your school counselor. In addition, teachers have already pre-loaded their new students into their S2 Teams. If your student cannot find the Team(s) for their new class(es), the student should email or message the teacher directly so that they can be added. We understand and anticipate that there may be kinks to work out as we make the transition to the second semester, so we appreciate your patience and understanding--we are here to help!
To be clear:
Tomorrow, Wednesday, January 27th is the first day of S2, is an A-Day, and will be a normal eLearning day.
Thursday, January 28th is a B-Day and will also be a normal eLearning day.
This Friday, January 29th is a teacher workday and there will be no class on that day. Enjoy your weekend!
As we begin the new semester, we also want to remind all families that students are expected to be in class every day. Attendance is taken by every teacher every day. It is important, if/when students are logging on to Teams, that they participate, interact with the teacher, and complete all assignments. If there is technology glitch, please make sure the teacher is aware of it. We certainly understand that technology issues can, do, and will arise, so please make sure your teacher(s) know if you have any issues. Attendance is a critical component of any successful school year, but this year it is even more imperative that students are present in their classes as much as possible. Students should also be reminded that attendance issues may prevent students from participating in sports, extra-curricular activities, and other school-sponsored events, so we remind all students to be in class every day!
TEXTBOOK/ITEM COLLECTION: We also want to remind you that we are currently collecting any S1 textbooks/items that your student may have throughout this week. Th schedule and details have been previously emailed to all parents and students and can also be found here on Flora Update. Please remember that all school-issued books/items must be returned in order to avoid a debt being placed on your student's account! And speaking of Flora Update, please be sure to check out the site and review the email sent to all parents last week about this new and improved way of communicating with the Flora community.
IMPORTANT DISTRICT SURVEY: Parents, yesterday you should have received a survey from the district on potential return-to-school options/opinions. If you did not receive the survey, or if you have questions about the survey, you should send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. You should include your child’s name, grade, and school when emailing. The district is working to ensure that all voices are heard, so please make check your email and fill out the survey. The deadline to fill out the survey is tomorrow, Wednesday, January 27th at noon.
MEAL DISTRIBUTION: Nutrition Services is resuming the normal Wednesday meal distribution/pick-up schedule as of today (it was altered slightly last week). The pick-up times (9 a.m. to noon) and distribution sites (St. Andrews, Southeast, Lower Richland, Eau Claire, Carver-Lyon, Caughman Road and South Kilbourne) are the same.
